38 Candidates file for the 2024 Primary Election on Filing Day

A total of 38 major-party candidates submitted their declarations to run for their respective offices for the 2024 Primary Election on Tuesday March 12 at the Doña Ana County Government Center.  According to NM Stat 1-8-26, declarations of candidacy for any office up for nomination in the primary election, other than those declared by preprimary convention designation, must be filed with the appropriate filing officer on the second Tuesday of March in every even-numbered year between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. 

Candidates who filed at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office included individuals running for non-federal, statewide and countywide positions. The following positions were eligible to file in Doña Ana County:

    • District 35
    • District 36
    • District 37
    • District 38
  • State Representative
    • oo District 32
    • oo District 33
    • oo District 34
    • oo District 35
    • oo District 36
    • oo District 37
    • oo District 52
    • oo District 53
  • District Attorney
  • Magistrate Court Judge Division 1
  • County Clerk
  • County Treasurer
  • County Commissioner
    • District 2
    • District 4
    • District 5

Candidates running for Federal offices filed their declarations with the Secretary of State Tuesday Feb. 6. For a list of all candidates who filed in Doña Ana County, visit the New Mexico Secretary of State webpage at http://candidateportal.servis.sos.state.nm.us/CandidateList.aspx?eid=2876&cty=99.

Candidates who filed will be notified in writing that they have qualified to be on the ballot by Tuesday Mar. 19. NM Stat 1-8-26 (D) requires these qualification letters be mailed no later than 5 p.m. on the Tuesday following the filing date. 

“We had a successful filing day in Doña Ana County and our staff did a great job in serving our constituents with great customer service. We want to extend our congratulations to all the candidates who stepped up to run for office and offer them our best wishes in the months ahead,” said Doña Ana County Clerk, Dr. Amanda López Askin. 

The 2024 Primary Election will be held Tuesday June 4, with early voting starting Tuesday May 7.  For a complete list of all voting locations and hours, please visit www.donaanacountyelections.com.
