CM_2018_thumbnailFernando R. Macias took the helm of Doña Ana County as county manager on January 8, 2018. He holds a bachelor’s degree in government and economics from New Mexico State University and a law degree from Georgetown University. As county manager, he said he will focus on budgetary issues, infrastructure, public safety and moving forward the policy initiatives of the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners.

Macias previously served as county manager from 1997 to 2000, before taking the executive director position at the Juarez-based Border Environment Cooperation Commission. He is also a former Doña Ana County commissioner and commission chairman.

He was appointed to the Third Judicial District Court bench by former Gov. Bill Richardson in 2006 and earned retention from the voters in each subsequent election cycle.

As manager, Macias is the sole direct-report employee of the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners and he oversees approximately 850 employees.
